AUDITION MATERIAL The technique passage below will be used to evaluate mastery of skill in regards to shifting, bow distribution, key signatures, and accuracy of rhythm, tempo and pitch. Student ensemble placement will be partially determined by the quartile in which their score falls. Students are encouraged to play as much of the passage as they are able, with their metronome set at the designated tempo. Student input is required for the scale portion of the audition! Students may decide how many octaves they perform on the assigned scale for their instrument. Since this part of the audition is up to the student, it is important that they demonstrate their highest level of ability. I want to see their best!! Student understanding and familiarity of shifting is required for advanced ensembles. Students who only perform one octave or two octave scales will not be considered for Chamber Orchestra, the exception being the 2 octave scale for Bass.
Scales requirements are the following: Tempo : Quarter Note = 90 (Metronome required in audition) Tone : Projecting, resonant sound achieved through use of full bow distribution.
