Ms. Mindy Florian is currently the Head Orchestra Director and instructor of AP Music Theory at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe ISD. Ms. Florian graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 2013 and loves teaching at her alma mater. A proud and native Texan, Ms. Florian graduated from The University of Alabama (Roll Tide) in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Instrumental Music Education. Ms. Florian has been involved in music her entire life; she started singing as a young child and began learning the violin on her tenth birthday. As a freshman in high school, Ms. Florian opened a private violin studio and discovered her love of teaching. As a student at The University of Alabama, she continued teaching students privately, directed an intermediate chamber strings ensemble and taught an adult strings class with her mentor, Dr. Anne C. Witt. Ms. Florian was named Presser Scholar for the School of Music for the 2016-2017 Academic Year and was awarded the Most Outstanding Senior Instrumental Music Education Major. During her time at the University, Ms. Florian studied violin with Jenny Grégoire, strings education with Dr. Anne C. Witt and conducting with Dr. Blake Richardson. Ms. Florian is an active performer, playing regularly in chamber ensembles and orchestras and she continues to sing. She lives with her beloved golden retriever, Bear.
Pedro Funez is currently the Assistant Orchestra Director at Oak Ridge High School in Conroe ISD and Director of Aquila di Guerra (HS Viol Ensemble). He graduated from the University of Houston where he majored in Double Bass performance under Dennis Whittaker. He was the Orchestra Director at Park View Intermediate School for 3 years. In addition, he received his Master's Degree in Early Music at Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University where he studied viola gamba and vielle with Wendy Gillespie and performed baroque bass in the IU Baroque Orchestra under Stanley Ritchie. In Fall 2011 he co-founded Les Touches and in Summer 2015, the ensemble was a finalist for the York International Young Artist Competition. He was the Teaching Assistant for the Beginner Viols at Conclave 2016 and part of the faculty for the Summer Texas Toot 2018. He has performed across Texas with Austin Baroque Orchestra (Principal Bass), Ars Lyrica, La Folia, Austin Troubadours and Texas Early Music Project. Currently he is the President of Viols of Houston, President of Houston Early Music, and Director of the Young Players Weekend for the Viola Da Gamba Society of America. The Non Varsity and Sub Non Varsity has received Sweepstakes under his direction at UIL.
