Hello ORHS Orchestra Members and Parents!
It is December and the next few weeks will be consuming for students. Between finals, routine assignments, rehearsals, the holiday season, and (importantly) sleep, students will need to carefully manage their time.
The officers have worked hard to plan a fun holiday party for all orchestra members this year. The party will be next Friday in the orchestra room from 4:00 p.m. until no later than 10:00 p.m. We will have games, hot chocolate, fun food and music! The Polar Express and Home Alone will be shown as well. We hope to have many students there!
Our *amazing* booster club is currently running a fundraiser. We are selling beautiful wreaths and you still have time to purchase one! Please support the orchestra - full participation will really help! Attached is the information you need for purchasing.
Our Holiday Concert is a week from Monday on December 11. The first concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the second concert will begin at 7:45 p.m. Our gamba ensemble - Aquila di Guerra will perform at 7:20 - you won't want to miss it! It is an incredible opportunity to be able to provide this instrumental experience to our students.
Have a happy weekend!
Hello Orchestra Parents and Students!
We are deep into the Fall Semester here at school and there are several items we want everyone to be aware of. Please read this ENTIRE email! Each item is important!
Most importantly : If your uniform does not fit appropriately, the deadline for letting one of the directors know is TUESDAY, OCTOBER 31. We want to make sure everyone has a correctly fitting uniform for this year. Please let us know if you have an issue with your uniform by TUESDAY!
The week of November 13th, students will have their Winter Concert playing test. Some students should already have music to practice. The rest of our concert music practice copies will be distributed next week.
There are still students who need to turn in their forms from the beginning of the year. These include the ORHS Orchestra Handbook Acknowledgement Form and the Permit to Travel/Health Form for the 2017-2018 School Year.
Orchestra fees may be paid on the ORHS Web-store. Payments can be made partially, if necessary. As always, please contact the directors if there is a financial situation we need to be aware of. We are happy to help when we can!
November 8th : Chamber Orchestra and Aquila di Guerra will perform at the Texas Renaissance Festival! These students have worked so hard on their program for the festival competition and are ready to have some fun! Students in these two ensembles should have purchased a festival ticket on the ORHS Webstore. **Please note, purchasing the meal ticket is optional.**
December 11th : Our Winter Concert is right around the corner and will be full of lots of holiday cheer! We look forward to seeing you there!
The ORHS Orchestra Booster Club is currently doing a fundraiser. Students are selling Holiday Greenery and Wreather through Mickman's Holiday Gifts! Please open the attachment to see the promotional flyer! Information on the fundraiser went home this week with students. Students in Sinfonietta will receive information Monday in class.

During the month of September, our program collected canned food for Hurricane Harvey victims. We were about to donate over 400 cans!!
WAY TO GO ORCHESTRA! Your directors are proud of all you are accomplishing - in the rehearsal room and in the community!!
Have a great weekend -
One week from today - Tuesday, October 3 is our Fall Concert!
Because our program is growing, we can no longer fit all orchestra families in the auditorium at once. This is a good problem! There will be two concerts Tuesday evening. The first concert will be for Philharmonic, Concert and Sinfonietta. This concert will begin at 6:30 pm. The second concert will be for Symphony and Chamber. We will begin at 7:45 pm.
Directions for student arrival: Students are expected to report to the orchestra room at the designated time for their orchestra. Students are expected to arrive in their formal uniform. Arriving and changing will result in grade deduction. Additional directions about uniforms and concert expectations can be found in the ORHS Orchestra Handbook.
Arrival times by orchestra:
Philharmonic - 5:50 pm Symphony - 7:15 pm
Concert - 6:00 pm Chamber - 7:25 pm
Sinfonietta - 6:15 pm
Ladies: Ladies should be in their formal black dress with close toed black dress shoes. Open toed sandals and flip flops are not allowed. Women should wear black tights, pantyhose or knee-highs. These can be purchased at the grocery store for an inexpensive price. Nails should be short and pale, make-up should be tasteful and not distracting, jewelry should be minimal and hair should be styled away from the face.
Men: Men should wear their white dress shirt, black dress pants and black jacket. Men should wear black dress shoes and black dress socks. White socks are not acceptable. Bow ties and cumberbunds will be distributed in the orchestra room when attendance is taken.
Let’s help our community!!!
The ORHS Orchestra Program is doing their part to help with Hurricane Harvey relief! Students are asked to bring canned food and other non-perishable food items. Items will be directly given to people in need. The drive ends on Friday, October 6th!!
We hope that this week back to school has been smooth for everyone. It’s been great to see kids in the orchestra room and help them get back into the swing of things – music definitely helps make that happen! In an effort to keep everyone on the same page, we wanted share some dates and important information.

Wednesday, October 4 Region Performance Exam for Symphony & Chamber
A note about the orchestra activity and maintenance fees: when the calendar was originally made – fees were to be due by September 15th. However, with the hardship of Hurricane Harvey, fees will now be due October 2nd. We hope that this helps alleviate some stress as families try to get back on their feet. As always, if there are any financial circumstances that make paying these fees difficult, please reach out to the directors. We are happy to help and find a solution, but we can’t help if we aren’t aware of a problem.
If you are new to Oak Ridge, student fees are able to be paid online through the school web store. Parents are able to log into the account for their student and pay any outstanding fees. Our finance office workers have to load fees for 4,500 students, so that is why the web store is not working yet. The hurricane also pushed us back on getting everything up and running online. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. As soon as the web store is current and working, we will happily let you know. They have an enormous job and we are thankful for their support of our program!! If you would rather pay with a check, please wait to send the check with your student to school until the finance office is ready to accept payment.
IMPORTANT: Checks need to have the student’s name and their six-digit ID number, as well as the parent’s driver license number. Please do NOT pay orchestra fees on Charms – but instead on the ORHS website. Fees paid in Charms will not go to the proper account and cannot be refunded.
Looking forward to meeting you all soon,
Mindy Florian Pedro Funez
